Wines released under the 'Terra Rossa' classification, are made from fruit that is grown exclusively on the rich red soils found in our vineyards at the southern end of Coonawarra. The micro-climate in this location provides an extended ripening period for the grapes, which imparts unique qualities in this range of wines. The combination of these elements, produces 'Terra Rossa' wines with wonderful fruit expression, elegance in structure, complexity and excellent cellaring potential.

92 POINTS - CAMPBELL MATTINSON

Heightened acidity but the flavours are solid. Blackberry, briar, earth and loganberry, with rugged tannin pulling it all out through the finish. It's a muscular wine; robust

2013 TERRA ROSSA MERLOT REVIEWS

96 POINTS - CHRIS SHANAHAN

Perhaps because so much misidentified cabernet franc once appeared as "merlot", merlot gained a reputation for being light and soft, but merlot, an offspring of cabernet franc, shares with its half sibling cabernet sauvignon, feisty, firm tannins. Grown in the right conditions, merlot shows beautiful fragrance and, under its considerable tannin load, most delightful fruit flavour. Parkers is unquestionably one of the best examples in Australia, showing a particularly concentrated, but elegant face of the variety.

91 POINTS - HUON HOOKE

Rich, meaty, plummy, blackberry, oaky, foresty and savoury bouquet showing some age development, and it's really quite complex. The palate is soft and fleshy, smooth, nicely textured and supple. A very tasty merlot of good depth and texture.

93 POINTS - GARY WALSH

Grown on the Abbey Vineyard, and I remember a pretty good wine Lindemans once released from the 1998 vintage, called Abbey Vineyard Merlot. I suspect it was a one off and wonder whether it’s from the same patch.

Good Merlot here. Rich and well appointed, black olives, forest berries, some creamy chocolaty oak and spice, almost violetty perfume. Medium to full bodied, earthy and fruit sweet at once, a fair amount of oak, but well weaved in, bright acidity and fine chalky tannin. Has a fair amount of oomph and flavour, without really being heavy. Kind of showy, but in a nice way.
