2016 Cabernet Sauvignon
As with previous vintages our Coonawarra Series Cabernet is made up from fruit sourced predominantly from our vitculturalist Brett Williams’ vineyard located on the railway line just north of the Parker Estate Cellars. Several parcels have also come from our estate ‘Abbey’ vineyard to complete the blend.
Another mild summer and consequent long-vintage has produced an elegant Cabernet from the 2016 season. Bright fruit, excellent varietal definition and intense colour has been recorded. A strong tannin vintage indicates wines which will continue to improve for the long term.

This has come together well with its offerings of ripe blackberry and damson plums, wafts of warm earth, iodine, mint and black olives. The palate shows a lot of restraint and freshness, fuller bodied not big though with determined tannins. A solid performer not just a backup singer.

Clean cabernet nose of blackcurrant and slight green leaf, flows across the palate in a measured way but not missing any pleasure points on the journey. The finish is just a tad short but no issue, its good Coonawarra cabernet and a remarkable price $24, 94 points

The winery is now part of the Hesketh stable, and the wine is made by Phil Lehmann. The website says 2014 (but is most likely behind), and that wine scored 93 points with me; the 2015 is even better, with pine forest and mint / eucalypt notes adding to the mix of ripe dark berries. It’s a long and polished wine with a degree of finesse despite its 14.5%

Deepish, youthful red/purple hue and a simpler but very pure, fruit-driven cabernet aroma of mulberry, violets and blueberry. It's the same on the tongue: good but a tad straightforward and the tannins a little sappy. A bright, varietal, fruit-driven cabernet.
