John Parker's focus and unwavering dedication to Coonawarra remains core to Parker Coonawarra Estate today -
"The most appropriate grape varieties, grown on the right soil profile in the most coveted vineyards, to make the best possible wine from this exceptional growing region."
S.B.W. #4 - Hungry Lou - is made up of 65% Barossa Valley Shiraz, 25% Coonawarra Shiraz and 10% Barossa Valley Tokay. The moniker 'Hungry Lou' is part nod to the Tokaj wine region of Hungary where the grape-variety 'Tokay' originates from, and part reference to King Louis XV who was known to have a penchant for both Tokaji and Syrah wine, recorded as often using these wines as gifts amongst Royals.
Since the 1991 release of the inaugural 1988 vintage, First Growth has set a benchmark for superior wine quality in the Coonawarra region. It is a wine made without compromise, using only the very best viticulture and winemaking practices.
S.B.W. #3 - Napoleon - is made up of 75% Coonawarra Cabernet and 25% Barossa Montepulciano. Named after Napoleon Bonaparte - whose Italian heritage and French birthright saw him become both emperor of France AND King of Italy; similarly the grape varieties in our S.B.W.#3 hail from both France (Cabernet Sauvignon) and Italy (Montepulciano).
